The Defining Ten is where an artist/creative is invited to take us on a musical dot to dot journey of the tracks which have led them to who they are today. These could be the first song they have a memory of, first purchase, first song they learnt to play, the track which opened doors, the track which closed doors, a track which inspired and lead to a new musical direction – so expect a variety of tracks from themselves and other artists. These tracks will be played in turn – either from vinyl, cd or streamed – and discussed with the artist. The evening will end with a unique performance and chance to meet the artist afterwards.

On June the 22nd we bring Dan Donovan of the ground breaking act Big Audio Dynamite and Dreadzone to Worthing.

Dan Donovan grew up in Notting Hill learning classical, jazz, blues and ragtime piano from a very young age. At 16 he became an assistant to a variety of famous photographers, including David Bailey and Irving Penn, and lived in Paris and New York. He was commissioned to take photographs and create the artwork for Mick Jones’ post Clash band Big Audio Dynamite, widely regarded as one of the most cutting edge and forward thinking acts of the 80s, combining rock with hip hop street culture and cinema. As a result of this he was asked to join the band as their keyboard player. He did so, writing, recording and performing on all four albums and live tours while also continuing to provide the artwork for the band’s releases.

Following the demise of the initial line up of B.A.D after the Megatop Phoenix album he joined the Sisters Of Mercy during their Vision Thing period, working as a drum programmer and performer. He was then reunited with his B.A.D bandmate Don Letts for the Screaming Target project, then joined Dreadzone, the band started by B.A.D’s drummer Greg Roberts, as keyboardist, writer and performer over the period which lead to Second Light, the band’s most successful and influential album.

After leaving Dreadzone Donovan worked with a variety of artists either as re mixer, or performer, including Paul Simonon of The Clash, Sly And Robbie, Grace Jones, Adamski, Paul Oakenfold, Seal, Mark Moore of S’Express, The Ruts and Kevin Saunderson and has been commissioned to DJ at big brand events including Prada and Calvin Klein, as well as DJing at Hollywood wrap and premiere parties.

He is currently reunited with Paul Simonon, playing keyboards for the Paul Simonon and Galen Ayres album project.

We are very excited at bringing Dan to Worthing to listen to the songs and hear the stories around his Defining Ten, after which we will have some Hollywood style glamour with a 45 minute DJ set from the man himself.

Please note this is a ticketless event – you will need your order number/ email receipt to gain entry to the show.

This event plants trees – for each ticket purchased we will plant one tree with #nomusiconadeadplanet
