The Defining Ten is where an artist/creative is invited to take us on a musical dot-to-dot journey of the tracks that led them to who they are today. These could be the first song they have a memory of, first purchase, first song they learnt to play, the track that opened doors, the track that closed doors, a track that inspired and led to a new musical direction – so expect a variety of tracks from themselves and other artists. These tracks will be played in turn – either from vinyl, CD or streamed – and discussed with the artist. The evening will end with a unique performance and chance to meet the artist afterwards.

On Thursday 22nd February we bring Deb Googe – bassist of My Bloody Valentine, Thurston Moore Group, Brix Smith and da Googie – to Worthing.

Originally from Yeovil in Somerset where she played in band called Bikini Mutants, Deb moved to London and joined My Bloody Valentine in April 1985, staying with them over the next 11 years during the period which resulted in their two classic and influential albums Isn’t Anything and Loveless as well as the clutch of seminal eps released on Creation Records.

As sessions for their third album stalled Deb left My Bloody Valentine in 1996 and formed Snowpony with Katharine Gifford of Stereolab and Moonshake and went on to release 3 albums between 1997 and 2003.

Following a break from music after Snowpony split up, Deb returned to My Bloody Valentine in 2008 for their reunion tour and has been playing with them since.

In 2012 she replaced Mani as the bassist for Primal Scream. Subsequently she would go on to work with Sonic Youth’s Thurston Moore across 3 acclaimed solo albums and various other projects. She played bass on Tim Burgess’ (The Charlatans’) solo album and become part of Brix Smith’s all women live band in 2022.

In November last year Deb announced new music under the name of “da Googie”, releasing a split album with 3 new tracks which we will have available on the night to buy.

We are very excited at bringing Deb to Worthing to listen to the songs and hear the stories around her Defining Ten, which will be followed by a Q&A with the audience.
