The Defining Ten is where an artist/creative is invited to take us on a musical dot to dot journey of the tracks which have led them to who they are today. These could be the first song they have a memory of, first purchase, first song they learnt to play, the track which opened doors, the track which closed doors, a track which inspired and lead to a new musical direction – so expect a variety of tracks from themselves and other artists. These tracks will be played in turn – either from vinyl, cd or streamed – and discussed with the artist. The evening will end with a unique performance and chance to meet the artist afterwards.

On April 27th we bring Simon Ratcliffe of superstar dance duo Basement Jaxx to Worthing.

As one half of the Grammy & BRIT award winning duo Basement Jaxx, Simon Ratcliffe has co-created, alongside musical partner Felix Buxton, a legendary catalogue including the classic dance anthems “Red Alert”, “Rendez-Vu”, “Do Your Thing”, “Bingo Bango”, “Romeo” and “Where’s Your Head At” as well as a series of albums including the million-selling debut “Remedy”(1999) and the double platinum UK number one collection “The Singles” (2005)

Pushing beyond the dance genre Basement Jaxx have consistently explored other musical avenues including a (then) unique album collaboration with the Netherland’s Metropole Orkest (“Basement Jaxx Vs. Metropole Orkest”) which they took to the Sydney Opera House in 2019, as well as scoring Joe Cornish’s sci-fi thriller “Attack The Block” and The Rubbish World of Dave Spud”, a children’s TV show on ITV.

Last year they returned with the new single “Express Yourself and continued to DJ around the world, including their long-running Ibiza residency at “Glitterbox”, (arguably the best night on the island!)

Outside of Jaxx duties Simon has had various solo ventures – “Dorus Rijkers” (an Electronic Fusion project), producing & co-writing an Americana album (“Rush of Blood”) for singer/songwriter Geraint Watkins and his most recent solo project, “Village of The Sun”, an amazing collaboration with UK jazz duo Binker & Moses was released on Gearbox Records in November 2022 and will make its’ live debut at Ronnie Scott’s iconic club in London in March 2023.

We are very excited to be spending several hours in the company of such an iconic and important artist in the world of dance music, where we will discuss and listen to the 10 songs which have defined, inspired and influenced his career and musical approach, topped off with a special 45 minute DJ set at the end of the evening.

Please note this is a ticketless event – you will need your order number/ email receipt to gain entry to the show.

This event plants trees – for each ticket purchased we will plant one tree with #nomusiconadeadplanet
