The Defining Ten is where an artist/creative is invited to take us on a musical dot to dot journey of the tracks which have led them to who they are today. These could be the first song they have a memory of, first purchase, first song they learnt to play, the track which opened doors, the track which closed doors, a track which inspired and lead to a new musical direction – so expect a variety of tracks from themselves and other artists. These tracks will be played in turn – either from vinyl, cd or streamed – and discussed with the artist. The evening will end with a unique performance and chance to meet the artist afterwards.

On Thursday 29th September we bring a national treasure of indie music – STEVE MASON – former frontman of the beloved 90s/00s band The Beta Band to Worthing.

The Beta Band were one of the most acclaimed, exciting and experimental acts of the late 90s/ 00s indie scene, creating a massive stir with the release of their first 3 eps (later collected as The 3 Eps and famously featured in the movie adaptation of Nick Hornby’s High Fidelity) followed by 3 critically acclaimed albums – The Beta Band Album, Hot Shots Part 2 and Heroes To Zeroes.

Following the split of the band Steve Mason released an album under the King Biscuit Time moniker through an imprint of Alan McGee’s post Creation label Poptones. An electro influenced album under the name of Black Affair – a collaboration with Jimmy Edgar – followed. In 2010 the first of 4 albums under his own name was released – Boys Outside was produced by lauded producer Richard X, the originator of the “bastard pop” movement. This was followed by Monkey Minds In The Devil’s Time in 2013, Meet The Humans in 2016 and his latest album About The Light, released in 2019 on the indie label Domino – home of the Arctic Monkeys, amongst others.

With a catalogue of work which has always had an eclectic experimental edge with a heartfelt core Steve Mason’s Defining Ten songs will no doubt be a wonderful trip full of surprises…and following the discussion of The Defining Ten Steve Mason will be treating the audience to a special exclusive 45 minute DJ set.

Please note this is a ticketless event – you will need your order number/ email receipt to gain entry to the show.

This event plants trees – for each ticket purchased we will plant one tree with #nomusiconadeadplanet
